Actor Cameron Monaghan has casually confirmed that a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is in development. During an Ocala Comic-Con event, the voice and motion capture artist behind protagonist Cal Kestis said, “We’re working on a third installment. We’re doing it right now.” Considering series director Stig Asmussen recently rebuilt and instilled The news comes as a surprise given the confidence in the single-player Star Wars game. Left EA/Rebirth Entertainment. However, he has always expressed an interest in further advancing and concluding Cal’s storyline through a trilogy, and discussions for a sequel began even before the release of 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Monaghan further added (via Saix_XIII), “It’s been a huge undertaking and there have been a few conversations so far, but hopefully when everything is said and done we will be able to make something very special for you again. Cool stuff.” During the panel, he was joined by “Star Wars: Jedi: Survivors” co-star Tina Ivlev, who plays Carl’s teleportation target Merlin. There’s also a nod, marking the first unofficial and credible confirmation of the trilogy. Before leaving, Asmussen claimed that he had an entire time frame mapped out for the Cal trilogy, adding that Star Wars Jedi 3 will likely be built on Unreal Engine 5. Now it seems that the series will continue regardless of his existence, and may undergo some restructuring to get some “proprietary” development tools to work with the new engine.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivors Review
Earlier this month, Respawn Entertainment dropped Patch 7 Star Wars Jedi: Survivors is designed to further optimize PC and natively support Nvidia’s DLSS upgrade technology. The PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions also receive performance improvements targeting 60fps. Upon release, the game received rave reviews, praising its storyline, as well as its strong gameplay and level design inspired by FromSoftware’s Souls games. However, it was also heavily criticized for its poor performance, with erratic frame rates even in the least active areas of the screen. It’s been five months since its release on April 28, and the game seems to have improved significantly in that time.
During EA’s Q1 2024 earnings call in August, it was confirmed that Respawn Entertainment was in the early stages of producing a dedicated version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivors for last-generation PS4 and Xbox One. Similar to other major AAA publishers, the studio is skipping releases for older generation consoles entirely in order to optimize and deliver high-quality visuals with new hardware, although in this case the team still encountered some obstacles. Currently, there’s no release window for the new version, but when it does drop, it should serve as an interesting test to see how much graphical fidelity was sacrificed to get 30fps on last-gen consoles (running on a hard drive).
Star Wars Jedi: Survivors is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. EA has yet to comment on the follow-up.
