Takeshi’s Castle Reboot Casts Bhuvan Bam as Hindi Commentator, Releasing Late September on Amazon Prime Video

Takeshi’s Castle is set to return with a reboot this month, and ahead of that, Amazon Prime Video has launched a Hindi reviewer. Content creator and actor Bhuvan Bam will provide comedic voiceovers for the game show, reprising one of his YouTube personalities, Titu Mama. The eight-episode series will premiere on the platform on September 26 and will bring back the original castle owner Kitano Takeshi to set up challenging obstacles for contestants. With the full cast announced earlier this year, the original version of the show was released in Japan in April, and the rest of the world can now share it.

“I have been a huge fan of the concept, execution and joy of the game show since the original version of Samurai Castle aired on television. For me, growing up watching the show and now dubbing it, It really was a full-circle moment,” commentator Bam said in a prepared statement. “As an entertainer, my audiences have always appreciated the unique yet relatable characters I portray and I’m excited to flex my creative muscles as ‘Titu Mama’. I hope the younger generation will enjoy this as much as we did show.” Back in the 2000s, Pogo TV channel aired a stripped-down version of Takeshi’s Castle, with hilarious commentary provided by Jaaved Jaffrey (Jadugar), which is the main attraction of the show – arguably more important than the ongoing competition itself.

The rules are the same as the original Japanese show from the 1980s, and 100 volunteer contestants – or rather, the “attack army” – will attempt to storm the impenetrable castle while putting their bodies through a physical challenge , such as swinging in mud puddles, jumping over giant rolling pins, running through mazes, jumping over floating rocks, and more. The final round pits you into a car battle where you have to eliminate the castle lord Takeshi using a laser gun to win the then 10 lakh yen (approximately Rs. 6,14,000). The rebooted version promises the same bonuses, plus the promise of bigger and never-before-seen terrifying obstacles.

The addition of Bam naturally angered some people, with some (post-90s generation) taking to the internet to claim that Jaffrey’s voice is irreplaceable. The latter, of course, won’t help expressed his interest Last year, Hindi commentary was provided for the reboot. Apart from making videos for his YouTube channel ‘BB Ki Vines’, Bam also made his OTT debut with the Hotstar Specials show Taaza Khabar, in which he played a poor sanitation worker who comes across some surreal powers that completely changed his life. As for how his comments pay off, only time will tell.

The Takeshi’s Castle reboot will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 26 at 5:30 AM IST.
