China’s Tencent Holdings said on Thursday it has started internal testing of its self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) model, which is currently being integrated with a number of internal services and products.
Tencent said in a statement to Reuters on Thursday that its basic artificial intelligence model called “Hunyuan” has been integrated with a range of products including Tencent Cloud, Tencent Conference and Tencent Documents.
“Tencent Hunyuan’s large model was completely developed by ourselves from scratch and has now entered the company’s internal application testing stage.” the company said.
This comes after Chinese regulators issued a set of interim rules on generative AI last month, paving the way for Chinese tech companies such as Tencent and Alibaba to launch products with AI capabilities as soon as the end of August after receiving approval. .
Artificial intelligence has become a focus for Tencent in recent months. Reuters first reported on the company’s efforts to develop a hybrid model in February. Tencent said in a conference call with analysts in May that artificial intelligence would become an important “growth multiplier.”
On Thursday, Tencent also listed Tencent Games, Tencent Advertising, QQ Browser, WeChat Search and Tencent Financial Technology as business lines that will test the hybrid model in the near future.
“Initial results have been achieved and more businesses and applications are being connected (to the model),” the Shenzhen-based company said.
