Tesla Top executives Drew Baglino and Rohan Patel announced on Monday that they were leaving the electric vehicle maker and clean energy company. Chief Executive Elon Musk thanked two senior executives who have departed from X, formerly Twitter, the social network he owns and runs as chief technology officer.
Previously, Tesla said it would lay off more than 10% of its employees.
Baglino has been a firmware and electrical engineer at Tesla since 2006 and has worked with Tesla since its early years. President.
Patel joined Tesla in 2016 and previously served as a senior adviser to former President Obama on climate and energy issues and other policy matters.
Reuters recently reported Tesla has shelved plans to build new, more affordable electric cars under Musk’s guidance. The strategic shift includes a greater focus on developing “robotaxis” and comes amid fierce competition, including from BYD and other Chinese automakers launching cheaper electric vehicles.
Patel and Baglino were deeply involved in battery and car manufacturing, related policy, and transforming Tesla into a multinational electric vehicle manufacturer. They are less involved in Tesla’s self-driving car technology.

“Yesterday, I made the difficult decision to leave Tesla after 18 years. I am extremely grateful to have worked with and learned from the countless talented people at Tesla over the years. I have loved solving nearly everything we have solved as a team. question, and I’m excited to contribute to the mission of accelerating the transition to sustainable energy, which is a mission I’m very passionate about.
Musk responded on the platform, “Thank you for everything you do for Tesla. Very few people have contributed as much as you.”
As of Monday morning, Tesla had not updated its “leadership” message company’s Web page reflecting Baglino’s departure.

Musk replied to Patel: “Thank you for everything you do for Tesla. Thank you very much.”
The CEO also said in an X post on Monday that “approximately every five years, we need to restructure and streamline the company to achieve the next stage of growth.”
Baglino and Patel could not immediately be reached for comment.
