UAW launches union campaigns at Tesla, 12 other automakers in the U.S.

The UAW is launching an unprecedented campaign to organize the nation’s 13 non-union automakers after bargaining for a record contract with the Detroit automaker.

The union said on Wednesday that the campaign will cover nearly 150,000 auto workers including BMW, Honda, modern, wide awakeMazda, Mercedes, Nissan, RivianSubaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.

As part of the campaign, workers are signing electronic cards to support union efforts to organize the automakers’ U.S. plants.

There is no guarantee that unions will push to organize all participating plants or automakers. Overall, workers need to vote for UAW representation.

UAW President Shawn Fain said the union’s next task after approving the record contract is General Motors, Ford and star. The contracts include benefits such as hourly wage increases of at least 25%, restoration of cost-of-living adjustments and increased profit-sharing payments.

“To all the auto workers working without union benefits: now it’s your turn,” Fein said in a video posted online.

Several non-union automakers, including Hyundai, Toyota and Honda, have announced plans to raise worker wages following the UAW deal.
