“The Groningen Museum is very happy and relieved to have this work back,” curator Andreas Blühm said in a statement. “We are very grateful to have contributed to this good outcome. of all people.”

It declined to provide further details on how it was discovered. It said “the painting has been damaged but still appears to be in good condition at first glance.” The work will be subject to scientific examination in the coming months. Its value is not provided. On the rare occasions when Van Gogh’s paintings are sold, they fetch millions of dollars at auction. However, an insurance company has paid damages to the Groningen Museum and it is now the official owner, although the museum said it would exercise its right of first refusal to purchase the work.
The company said it hoped the “Spring Newnan Vicarage Garden” could be back on display soon, although this “could take weeks or even months”.
This 25 x 57 cm (10 x 22 in) oil on paper painting depicts a man standing in a garden surrounded by trees, with a church tower in the background.
This dates back to when Van Gogh moved back to his family in rural Holland, and he painted the life he saw there in melancholic tones, including his famous work The Potato Eaters.
He later moved to the south of France, where his health declined before his death in 1890, where he developed a more colorful and energetic painting style.
