Warner Bros. Discovery Channel said Thursday that it will launch its 24/7 news streaming service CNN Max in the United States on Sept. 27.
CNN Max will leverage the news network’s global reporting resources and will also offer new original programming such as “CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta, Rahel Solomon, Amara Walker and Fredricka Whitfield.”
It will also seek to leverage the immediacy of breaking news and analysis to differentiate CNN Max from the short-lived CNN+ streaming service, which launches in March 2022 and features lifestyle programming.
CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, has been working to increase the time subscribers spend on its Max streaming service, enhancing HBO’s scripted series with Discovery’s reality shows to keep viewers watching.
Breaking news and analysis will further expand the reach of Max’s programming, while also allowing CNN to reach a younger streaming audience.
Even as CNN tries to attract a more Republican audience, the network’s ratings have been slipping. Its profit will fall below $1 billion (nearly Rs 8,250 crore) in 2022, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence, and is expected to be slightly higher this year at $938.6 million (nearly Rs 77.5 crore). These estimates apply to CNN networks operating in the United States, including CNN en Español and CNN International.
In June, CNN trailed Fox and MSNBC in primetime and all-day ratings, according to Nielsen data.
The CNN Originals hub on the Max service will be renamed CNN Max, and U.S. subscribers will be able to watch live news alongside existing original series such as Anthony Bourdain: The Parts Unknown and Stanley Tucci: Finding Italy “.
