Web3 Gamer – Cointelegraph Magazine

As the year comes to an end, every gaming company and the companies under its umbrella release their year-in-review reports.

recent Report A report from blockchain game accelerator Game7 suggests that many game developers are forced to take a nap instead of launching new games.

Only 223 Web3 games were launched this year, which is a 65% drop from the 640 games launched in 2022, and a wider gap compared with the 811 games launched in 2021.

So what happened to the sudden collapse in output?

Well, the optimistic answer is that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Immutable co-founder and president Robbie Ferguson seems to think that… there are a lot of great Web3 games coming… but patience is required.

In an interview with Magazine, Ferguson said that funding for Web3 games has increased significantly recently, and developers are focusing on creating great and popular games:

“It was really interesting last year, there was so much investment coming into Web3 games, it was just a time lag in game production until we started seeing hot products… About $15 billion has been invested in Web3 games over the last 3 years.”

Likewise, Stefanidis also mentioned cash flow in the Web3 gaming scene, although new money from retail has not yet flowed back into the overall cryptocurrency market.

“The appetite has definitely increased. Projects are minting and raising funds again. I think even in the bear market, people’s confidence in Web3 continues to grow.” Stefanidis said.

But by 2024, real hits will be more than just attracting players through spending money, at least according to Gabby Dizon, co-founder of Yield Guild Games.

In a recent interview with Cointelegraph, Dizon claimed that the most successful Web3 games in 2024 will move from play-to-earn (P2E) to completely free to attract players.

Keep an eye on AAA first-person extraction shooter blockchain game Shrapnel to see if it becomes a hit or a flop.

The game has received a lot of hype in the industry.

It is set on Earth in the year 2038, and the goal is to collect valuable in-game assets and safely extract them while fighting against enemies and rival players.

However, John Stefanidis, CEO of Balthazar Gaming DAO, told the magazine that the games that will be hugely successful may just be those that do classics and promise less but deliver more:

“I think the challenge for games right now is trying to deliver on a lot of the promises they made, while they’re struggling to gain users when there are other promising games coming out. Much less.”

Ferguson predicts that the “first hit” blockchain game will usher in a new narrative, as developers will be able to see “the playbook used to make a successful game.”

“By the end of the year, there shouldn’t be any barriers to a successful enough game.”

Blowfish Studios announces early access to Phantom Galaxy

The development team behind new sci-fi action RPG Phantom Galaxies described the game space as “challenging and unpredictable” when announcing the early access title.

Do developers admit to a bit of market jitters when launching new games?

This is probably unnecessary as the title has already gained considerable traction online, already boasting over 100,000 followers on Platform X (aka Twitter).

Phantom Galaxies is published by Blowfish Studios, a subsidiary of Web3 giant Animoca Brands, and is available as a free download on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The game is set after the end of the interstellar war. The Commonwealth and the Federation jointly established the Ranger Squadron, a team of skilled mecha pilots responsible for defending human colonies on the edge of space.

Players join the squadron as an “ensign” (junior officer), control a deformed Starlight, and fight pirate factions and aliens.

According to an official blog Upon launch, the official governance token called Astrafer can be used to purchase credits, ores, and U-Cubes to upgrade starfighters.

There are three ranger tracks in the game. The first two, Standard and Advanced, each give players rewards after reaching a certain level. But sadly – unfortunately, “Astrafer” is not included in the rewards for these two tracks.

The most expensive option for players is the Elite Track. Currently, this track is the only way to get an Astrafer in the game, but don’t worry, they swear it won’t be that way forever.

“Elite Track is currently the only way to receive ASTRAFER in the game, but this will change in the future.”

However, if users don’t like making huge amounts of money, they can jump onto the standard track for free.

Disney’s Web3 platform ‘irrelevant’

Disney decided to get involved in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) after abandoning its Metaverse project and 50 jobs earlier this year.

It has partnered with blockchain and Metaverse company Dapper Labs to create an NFT platform that will make iconic cartoon characters from the past century available on the market, called Disney Pinnacle.

The platform will also include icons from Pixar and heroes and villains from the Star Wars galaxy styled as collectible and tradeable digital badges.

But…does the buzz around multi-billion dollar companies entering the Web3 space still exist?

Ilja Moisejevs, co-founder of Solana NFT marketplace Tensor, believes this is really not worth the fuss:

“Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion – but Disney, Nike, Sbux, the next Web2 brand to go to Web3… are all irrelevant. It’s like worrying about whether Wal-Mart will be in 1999 Same as starting to use the web. Of course they will eventually, who cares – 99% of web value capture is done by web-native startups.”

Hot Topics: NFL Rivals

NFL Rivals is an action blockchain game published by Mythical Games in partnership with the National Football League (NFL).

The gaming team only recently said goodbye to the Ethereum blockchain and jumped ship to Polkadot. They point the finger at Ethereum’s slow transaction speeds and wallet depletion costs.

Before you roll your eyes at the NFL championship, no, you don’t need to be a sports guru for this championship.

To be honest, this isn’t really a game that will excite die-hard sports fans. It’s simple and that’s the beauty of it.

I’m so obsessed with the gameplay that I swear I’ve never watched an NFL game.

NFL Rivals is a free mobile game.

If you’re looking for a new game to kill time during a flight delay or to entertain yourself when your date is late, this is the game for you.

Even better, you don’t have to spend a dime to play games on your iPhone or Android.

This tutorial is surprisingly efficient, unlike those that never end. It covers throwing, kicking, and more, and makes it easy to get into gameplay.

Once you enter the game, you put on the hat of a team manager. Each game you gather your players, level up, and recruit better players (and discard underperforming ones).

Nemesis 2
You can buy and sell players in NFL Rivals.

Once you reach level four in the game, you can unlock the option to buy, sell, and trade individual NFL players in the form of NTF on the Mythical online marketplace.

$26 million
Jaqua is priced at an extremely low price of only $26 million

I took a quick look at the market, and the most collectible one was the Jaquan Brisker, which sold for a whopping $100 million (myth).

In case you’re wondering, that’s about $26 million.

If you’re not ready to spend that kind of money, don’t worry – you can score a bargain at Justin Houston for just 1.5 MYTH (approximately $0.39 USD).

What I love about NFL Rivals is that it fits seamlessly into the iPhone screen. Unlike some soccer and tennis games I’ve tried, your thumb ends up covering half of the action. Not cool.

control? Pretty smooth. Even if you have fat fingers, this game won’t make you pull your hair out.
