WhatsApp Introduces Multiple Accounts on Android: Here’s How to Enable the Feature

WhatsApp ties users to a single active account on a device, even though they can choose to use the popular messaging platform on different devices. To access a secondary account associated with a different phone number, users must sign out from the primary account on the same device. That’s about to change. The messaging app owned by Meta announced on Thursday that it will allow users to log into two active WhatsApp accounts simultaneously on Android devices. WhatsApp users can seamlessly switch between the two accounts without logging out.

in a blog WhatsApp said that to set up two accounts, users will need a second phone number and SIM card, or a phone that supports multiple SIM cards or eSIM. Users can then go to WhatsApp Settings, click on the arrow next to their name, and then click on “Add Account.” They can then set up a second WhatsApp account on the app using the recovery phone number.

It’s also worth noting that users can adjust privacy and notification settings for each account individually. For example, you can mute notifications on your personal account and allow notifications on your work account, or vice versa. Of course, messages sent and received by both accounts will also be end-to-end encrypted.

The multi-account feature will allow users to easily switch between work and personal accounts on WhatsApp without having to carry two phones to switch. WhatsApp on its blog also warned users to only use the official WhatsApp app from the Google Play Store and not download copycat apps. The company has not yet confirmed the feature on iOS devices.

WhatsApp has had a busy week, rolling out a slew of new updates and features for its users. Recently, it was reported that the app is testing a “view once” mode switch for voice messages, much like the mode for sending photos and videos on the app.

Earlier this week, the app also launched support for Android keys. The feature allows Android users to securely log back into their WhatsApp account using biometric authentication on their phone or a device PIN.
