A Report Windows Central quoted Microsoft internal data as saying that Windows 11 is currently used on more than 400 million monthly active devices, and by early 2024, the number of monthly active devices will reach 500 million. Windows 11 adoption appears to be significantly slower than Windows 10. However, the report notes that Microsoft has set “modest” expectations for the Windows 11 adoption base, and the company has consistently exceeded those internal goals. Windows 11 has reportedly been more successful than the company expected from a user base perspective.
Windows 11 was released in July 2021 with significant design changes, including a new startup screen, startup sounds, and upgraded widgets. It took Microsoft two years to reach 400 million monthly active devices for Windows 11, while Windows 10, launched in June 2015, took just over a year to reach 400 million monthly active devices. By early 2020, it had reached 1 billion users.
Windows 10 is launched as a limited free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8. On the other hand, due to Trusted Platform Module (TPM) requirements, the Windows 11 operating system is only supported on CPUs released after 2018. Windows 11’s slow adoption can be attributed to these stringent hardware requirements.
