Xpeng AeroHT, an affiliate XpengThe Chinese electric car maker’s co-president told CNBC on Friday that it aims to deliver flying cars to customers in 2026.
Last year, Xpeng launched the Land Aircraft Carrier, a large truck with an interior that flies two-seat passenger electric drones. The flying car could be detached from the truck, and then people could get into the drone and fly it.
Brian Gu, co-president of Xpeng Motors, said the car will be available for pre-order this year, adding that the company hopes to deliver the car in 2026.
“We are confident because we have designed this system not to be used in urban centers but in scenic suburbs… We will work with municipalities to create fly parks and fly zones so people don’t have to worry Just enjoy the fun of flying.
Xpeng Motors said this year that the flying car is currently undergoing the certification process with Chinese aviation regulators.
The 2026 timetable is slightly later than Xpeng Motors’ previously touted delivery target of the fourth quarter of 2025.
Passengers do not need a special license to use a drone for the first time, Gu said.
“Because we are using recreational and sports-related use cases for the initial use of this flying device. As you get closer to urban…centers, you do need special licenses and getting approval becomes more complicated, ” Gu said.
Xpeng Motors has been looking to expand into other areas of electric vehicles, with CEO He Xiaopeng previously telling CNBC that robots and flying cars are part of the company’s long-term goals.
