Telecom operators have installed over 3 lakh 5G mobile sites within 10 months of launching the service, Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. 5G sites have been installed in 714 areas.

“The world’s fastest 5G deployment continues. Over 300,000 5G sites installed in 714 regions,” Vaishnaw explain on social media platform Koo.

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are the only telecom operators in the country to launch 5G services. Data shared by the minister showed that more than 300,000 sites have been installed in the 10 months since the launch of 5G services on October 1 last year.

According to official data, 100,000 sites were installed within 5 months of the service’s launch, and 200,000 sites were installed within 8 months.

In May this year, IT Minister and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated Gangotri 5G sites, taking the number of 5G sites to the 200,000 mark . Federal Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan said in April that more than 600 districts in the country were covered within 200 days of launch, one of the fastest in the world. Last month, Ericsson Mobility reported that 5G subscribers in India are expected to reach around 10 million by the end of 2022, and could account for around 57% of the country’s mobile subscribers by the end of 2028, making it the “fastest growing” 5G global region .
