A new month brings more new games to look forward to, and August is no exception. A variety of games, big and small, await us, covering a wide range of genres. First up is a bombshell – Baldur’s Gate 3, the highly anticipated role-playing game from Larian Studios, which will be available on August 3rd. You can expect the purest RPG experience from Baldur’s Gate, with roots stretching back to the tabletop RPGs of yesteryear. Larian doesn’t cut corners, and its game offers plenty of meaningful choices, character builds, and ways to play.

August also brings FromSoftware’s next game, Armored Core VI: Rubicon Fire. The makers of Elden Ring are reviving their long-dormant mech combat series, which may be unfamiliar to many gamers. Since releasing its last Armored Core game in 2012, the Japanese developer has made success with the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and most recently, Elden Ring A huge success. FromSoftware is known for its difficult but rewarding games, and Armored Core will be a departure from its regular series of games. That said, you can expect the same level of uncompromising adherence to its game design ethos.

Then there’s Immortals of Aveum, a new IP from EA that focuses on first-person magic combat, much like Ghostwire Tokyo. Sports fans can try Madden NFL 24, and if you just want a laid-back narrative experience, the upcoming indie game Goodbye Volcano High, with its high school theme, evocative soundtrack, and beautiful art style, might Suitable for you. Baldur’s Gate 3

After nearly three years of early access, Larian Studios seems to have slow-cooked Baldur’s Gate 3 to perfection that will excite D&D fans. Faerûn is besieged by a race of creatures (including us) whose brains have been infected by mind flayers. Lost in a trance as parasites slowly transform you into a monster, you’ll need to decide whether to resist corruption or embrace otherworldly powers, risking everything in a dynamic world where every roll of the dice determines your fate. Become one of seven Origins characters and enjoy their unique, handcrafted stories, or create your own custom protagonist and recruit them to fight alongside you against demons, gods, and the forces of evil.

Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a massive character creation suite with 12 classes, 11 races, 31 subraces, and over 600 spells to choose from, all of which affect your overall statistics. Its vast campaign rewards exploration around every corner, plus it offers a challenging turn-based combat experience that’s even easier to pick up thanks to three difficulty settings. In fact, this CRPG is so big that the cutscenes alone are enough to keep you playing for over 174 hours. Add to that the ability to develop strong bonds and explore romantic options with the people you meet along the way, and this is a role-playing game full of promise. BG3 can also be played cooperatively with friends or online players to help solve the many missions together, or strategize and spread out your party for better coverage.

In Moving Out 2, you and your friends play as a professional moving team. Together you will pack, load, and transport furniture and other belongings from one home to another. Working together as a team will make moving easier. Along the way, you’ll encounter a variety of obstacles, from tight spaces to dangerous objects. You’ll have a wealth of tools and abilities at your disposal to help you overcome them.

Power-ups can temporarily increase your strength or speed, which is helpful when moving heavy objects. If you’re a fan of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre film series, this upcoming game from Sumo Digital will let you play as the notorious massacre family, tracking and hunting down their victims before they escape. This asymmetrical game is based on the 1974 horror film and lets you play as Leatherface, Hitchhiker, Johnny, Chef and Sissy.

You can also play as one of the guests (or victims), but you’ll need to stay alert and use the tools around you to find your way out. These victims included Connie Taylor, Leland McKinney, Julie Crawford, Ana Flores and Sonny. It also lets you team up with your friends through the built-in co-op (co-op) mode. Movie buffs will be happy to know that Edwin Neal, who played the hitchhiker in the original film, is reprising his role in the game.

Immortals of Avim

Time: August 22
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X

Revealed at The Game Awards 2022, the first-person shooter features spell-based combat set in the world of Aveum, where soldiers battle the Eternal War. You play as Jack, a battle mage and the Three Saints of Magnus, trying to discover the truth about its past – if you want to save the Earth before it’s all destroyed.

As with some of the most popular magic games, you have access to 25 offensive and defensive spells, as well as over 80 talents and magical equipment – all of which can be honed and upgraded as you progress through the game. Immortals of Aveum offers very fast-paced combat, so you have to learn how to chain attacks together to defeat your enemies.

Blasphemy 2

Time: August 24
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch

Game Kitchen’s Blasphemous 2 is a 2D metroidvania that’s very similar to Dead Cells. The game follows the journey of The Penitent, continuing the story of the first game and its DLC. This time, it’s a new world filled with new dangers and secrets. As you’d expect from a Metroidvania-like game, the game plays out in a cycle of death and resurrection as you explore intricate labyrinthine levels and engage in gorgeous combat.

The sequel to 2019’s Desecration brings new weapons to your arsenal and new ways to kill. There are boss battles to fight, mysteries to uncover, and NPCs to make friends with. There are also tons of customization options for your abilities and weapons, so you’re never really limited to a playstyle. Would a Metroidvania like Dead Cells really be complete without a retro pixel art style? “Desecration 2” will be released on August 24th for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Nintendo Switch.

Armored Core VI Rubicon Fire

FromSoftware is returning to its machining roots, taking you into a dystopian future where interstellar travel has become commonplace in search of coral, a rare energy source that has resurfaced on the grey-colored planet Rubicon 3 . Mercenary 621, you are thrust into an interstellar war for material, competing against countless other alien corporations and resistance groups. Director Masaru Yamamura emphasized that while Armored Core 6: Rubicon Fire draws a wealth of knowledge from his years of experience making Souls-like games, its core gameplay loop still focuses on customization – specifically, Assemble the mecha and replace parts. Perform better in combat.

Each AC unit comes equipped with four weapons – one for each arm and shoulder – which is entirely your space to fiddle with and adjust your fighting style. From projectile weapons like Gatling and energy guns to pulse blades, shields, missile launchers and more, plus body modifications to outfit your mech in new colors and fashions. Combat is much faster-paced than the Soulsborne games, relying on melee and ranged attacks to help take down cleverly designed bosses that scream FromSoftware DNA. Use the new assault booster to battle huge combat helicopters and armored mobile turrets, swoop to quickly close range, and then deliver the final blow. This is easily the best-looking mecha game in years.

Goodbye Volcano High School
