Munich – BMW will build its semi-autonomous driver assistance system Amazon’s The two companies said on Tuesday that cloud computing technology.

The German automaker’s next-generation advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will appear in the company’s Neue Klasse series of electric vehicles, which it unveiled on Saturday, due to launch in 2025.

Traditional automakers want to upgrade their vehicle technology, especially ADAS, to compete with rivals. tesla.

ADAS is a software system that assists the driver in maneuvers such as changing lanes or parking a car. Automakers are looking to introduce more and more of these features as they push toward autonomous driving. For example, Tesla’s ADAS is called Autopilot.

ADAS will require a lot of data processing because the software depends on the hardware set, including cameras and semiconductors. AI processes are key to underpinning these assisted driving systems.

This is where Amazon Web Services (AWS) comes in. BMW will store and process large amounts of data in Amazon’s cloud servers. As autonomous driving features advance, more and more data storage and processing is required.

Developing these functions in the cloud will allow BMW to update software more quickly and train new artificial intelligence models to perform increasingly complex autonomous driving functions. In theory, these new features could be downloaded directly to the car via the internet.

“Implementing these systems on an international scale at the BMW Group requires an approach that is able to process and analyze large amounts of data as well as learn and innovate so that the automaker can develop safer and more reliable automation and ADAS systems,” said Wendy Bauer, managing director of the BMW Group. Bauer said. AWS for Automotive and Manufacturing, said in a release.

BMW also said it would use Qualcomm’s The Snapdragon Ride platform — a set of dedicated chips — powers its ADAS from 2025.
