BP Chief Executive Bernard Looney will step down after less than four years on the job, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Looney, 53, 21, joined BP in 1991 and has spent his entire career at the company. The Irish citizen was appointed CEO in 2020 and is responsible for transforming the oil producer into an integrated energy company and steering the energy transition.

A BP spokesman was not immediately available for comment. Looney did not respond to a request for comment.

Looney pledged to cut oil and natural gas production to reduce emissions while investing in clean energy technologies such as wind power, hydrogen and electric vehicle charging.
