Instagram Testing Group-Tagging Feature via Single Mention on Stories: Report

Instagram may offer users some new features in the coming days. The social media platform is testing a feature that lets users tag a group of people on Instagram Stories with a simple mention. As the creator economy on Instagram flourishes internationally, the platform is constantly updating its feature options to meet the needs of various users. As of August this year, the platform is estimated to have more than 2.3 billion active users worldwide.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, revealed some information about the upcoming feature on his broadcast channel called “IG Updates.” Describing the feature, Mosseri said users will soon be able to add multiple followers to create a group, and instead of having to tag people individually on stories, they can just tag the group.

As part of a group tab, mention notifications will be sent to all members of the group, who can also re-share the post in their stories.

“We are testing a way to use a single mention to tag a group of people in a story. Once a group mention is created, it can be reused by anyone in the group to automatically tag everyone in any new story .” technical To quote Mosseri on the radio.

Currently, the timetable for the arrival of this feature has not been disclosed. The Techlusive report adds that the feature will likely roll out in the US first before rolling out to other regions.

Last month, the Meta-owned platform launched a Twitter-like app called “Threads.” Threads, integrated with users’ Instagram accounts, quickly racked up 100 million signups, posing a serious threat to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter). Threads has been rolling out new features to its user base, including a chronological “Following” feed on iOS and Android. Mosseri also said that a web version of the platform is in the works.

Meta is working to adopt the Metaverse feature on its platform and service, allowing users’ Meta avatars to be used during video calls on Instagram and Messenger.

The company is also reportedly testing an in-app AI chatbot that will offer users at least 30 personalities to choose from.

This October, Instagram will be celebrating its 13th birthday.
