Apple launched the new iPhone 15 Pro Max at its “Wonderlust” event on September 12. This year, the company brought several hardware and design upgrades to its high-end iPhones. It runs on Apple’s A17 Bionic SoC, which Apple says is 10% faster than the iPhone 14’s A16 Bionic SoC. The phone also features a new programmable action button that replaces the mute switch, and comes with a USB Type-C charging port. iPhone 15 Pro Max debuts the first periscope camera on an iPhone. The iPhone 15 Pro Max competes directly with last year’s big guns, the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a bit pricey this year, initially priced at Rs. 1,59,900 for the base model with 256GB storage. It’s available in black titanium, blue titanium, natural titanium and white titanium finishes. iPhone 14 Pro Max launched for the first time with prices starting at Rs. 1,39,900 shades of deep purple, gold, silver and space black.

iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature the same 6.7-inch (1,290×2,796 pixels) Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology and always-on support. These displays are rated for peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. The big design upgrade for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is that the frame is changed to titanium instead of the stainless steel in the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple says it used aerospace-grade 5 titanium on the new models. In addition, iPhone 15 Pro Max also adds a new operation button, replacing the mute switch. Users can set the phone to default silent mode, or simply hold down the new button to open features like the camera.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is powered by the eight-core A17 Pro chip and offers 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options. In comparison, the older model was powered by an octa-core A16 Bionic chip and was available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB options as well as a high-end 1TB storage variant.
iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature triple rear camera units, including a 48-megapixel wide-angle sensor with f/1.78 aperture and support for optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 12-megapixel long focus sensor. The 12-megapixel telephoto sensor on the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a periscope lens. Both phones support 4K, 60 frames per second (fps) HDR video recording, and support Dolby Vision. The iPhone 15 Pro Max offers 0.5x, 1x, 2x, and 5x optical zoom options, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max offers 0.5x, 1x, 2x, and 3x optical zoom options. For selfies and video chats, both feature a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera with f/1.9 aperture.
Both phones offer Face ID for biometric authentication through their front-facing TrueDepth camera. They also feature IP68-rated dust and water-resistant construction. iPhone 15 Pro Max has Wi‑Fi 6E connectivity, while iPhone 14 Pro Max has Wi‑Fi 6 connectivity.
In terms of battery life, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max are said to provide up to 29 hours of video playback time and up to 95 hours of music playback time. iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a USB Type-C port with USB 3.0 speeds. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, has a Lightning port that supports USB 2 speeds. Both models support fast charging via a 20W adapter or Qi wireless charging and MagSafe wireless charging.
iPhone 15 Pro Max measures 159.9×76.7×8.25mm and weighs 221 grams. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro Max measures 160.7×77.6×7.85mm and weighs 240 grams.
