Jio AirFiber India Launch Date Set for September 19; Jio 5G Said to Cover Entire Country by December: Details

Reliance Jio AirFiber will be launched on September 19 in Ganesh Chaturthi, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani told Reliance Industries’ 46th AGM. Ambani said on Monday that Jio’s 5G service is “on track” to cover the entire country via the ultra-fast network by December this year.

Jio’s customer base has crossed 450 million. Its 5G network covers 96 percent of cities and towns and is expected to cover the whole country by December.

“Jio’s overall customer base has now passed the milestone of 450 million subscribers, with revenue up over 20% year-on-year,” he said.

Per-user data consumption on the Jio network has skyrocketed, with the average user currently consuming over 25 GB per month.

Ambani said that Jio was launched seven years ago with a mission to transform India into a first-class digital society, adding that “we have put all our energy into building the digital public infrastructure that the world has come to admire.” He asserted, Jio has been the main catalyst for New India’s impressive digital transformation.

“Now our ambitions are even bigger, and as I will explain, they go beyond the shores of India. Let’s start by discussing Jio True 5G, our pioneering 5G broadband product. We started rolling out 5G in October last year. In short In just nine months, Jio 5G has covered more than 96% of the census towns and cities in our country,” Ambani said.

Jio is expected to cover the entire country by December this year.

With more than 50 million 5G customers, Jio is already leading the way in India’s 5G adoption, Ambani said.

“And we are the only company that has the ability to smoothly transition our entire 4G customer base to 5G with minimal additional capital expenditure. We are also seeing a growing trend towards high ARPU, post-paid as Jio 5G becomes more popular. Customers choose Jio as their network of choice,” Ambani said.
