Microsoft to Drop WordPad in Future Windows Update: All Details

Microsoft will disable WordPad in a future Windows update (i.e. Windows 12). The company has announced the removal of the feature in the latest deprecated features list. It says the software will no longer receive any updates. WordPad is a text editing software that is mainly used to edit text documents with basic formatting. It was launched in 1995. The application saves documents in .rtf format. Meanwhile, the tech giant recently rolled out Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise support to Google Chrome users.

According to Microsoft’s List of deprecated features WordPad will no longer get any updates since the September 1, 2023 Update, as the company plans to discontinue this in a future Windows update, namely Windows 12. The tech giant recommends users use Microsoft Word for text document formats with .doc and .rtf and Windows Notepad for plain text documents. WordPad saves documents in .rtf format. This text editing software was launched in 1995 and has been around since Windows 95.

WordPad can read and edit documents in .rtf format, but it does not support advanced editing such as adding tables, text color, text background color, numbered lists, and URL links. It can be used for quick note taking.

Meanwhile, Microsoft rolled out support for Bing Chat on desktop Chrome, allowing users to access its AI-powered Bing Chat on Windows, macOS, and Linux as long as they have the Chrome browser installed. The extension makes the feature available to more users, as Chrome is said to be the most popular web browser with over 60% market share.

Additionally, the company has extended Bing Chat Enterprise support to Edge on smartphones and Google Chrome on desktop. Users who have enabled Bing Chat Enterprise can now open Microsoft Edge on their smartphones and log in with their work account to access the feature.
