Nothing Phone 1 CEO and founder Carl Pei announced on Monday that the Nothing Phone 1 will receive the Nothing OS 2 update. The update brings new features introduced in the company’s latest handset, the Nothing Phone 2, to its first-generation smartphone launched last year. It also improves the home screen and the widgets available on the home screen, while adding new app management features. Users should be able to install the update, which is rolling out in batches over the next few days.
Pei confirmed the deployment of Nothing OS 2 to the first-generation Nothing Phone 1 on X (formerly Twitter). You need to download a 0.97GB file, which means you should be connected to a Wi-Fi network. It is a good idea to charge your smartphone before starting to install the update. At the time of publishing this article, Gadgets 360 has confirmed that the update is available for download on the Nothing Phone 1.

The Nothing OS 2 update comes with two notable app management features that debuted in the Nothing Phone 2 — the ability to clone apps and the App Locker. The former lets you create duplicates of apps like WhatsApp, so you can log into WhatsApp with two numbers on the same smartphone. The latter lets you protect certain apps from unauthorized access, even if your phone is unlocked.
Users who install the Nothing OS 2 update will also be able to access the updated Glyph interface. According to the company’s changelog, it allows your app to leave persistent notifications for important apps, while long-pressing the flashlight option in the quick settings menu will now light up the entire Glyph interface.
The company also updated the Phone 1’s user interface with the Nothing OS 2 update. These include a new home screen icon grid layout, and you can hide icon labels — a feature offered by third-party “launcher” apps on the Play Store.
Folder customization has also been expanded with new layouts and covers, while after updating Nothing Phone 1 to the latest software version you can add new widgets for the clock, weather and Quick View apps to Home screen.
