The Samsung Galaxy S24 series includes the regular Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra models and is expected to be officially launched early next year. Samsung has yet to reveal any details about the successor to the Galaxy S23 series, but there is already a lot of information leaked. Recently, it was reported that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will abandon the 10x zoom lens and replace it with a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. This could be a potential downgrade in zoom capabilities compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Known intelligence agents on X Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) claim Samsung will improve the telephoto camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to the post, the upcoming flagship phone will be equipped with a 50-megapixel telephoto sensor measuring 1/2.52 inches, with 0.7μm pixels and 5x optical zoom. The device is also said to include a 10-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom.
The tipster said this would make the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s telephoto camera performance weaker than the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra. The latter has two 50-megapixel sensors measuring 1/2.52 inches with 0.7μm pixels, suitable for telephoto and periscope lenses with 3x and 5x optical zoom.
If this rumor is true, the zoom function of the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be similar to the newly released iPhone 15 Pro Max. This could be a downgrade from the camera capabilities of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor that supports 10x optical zoom.
Samsung is expected to release its next-generation non-foldable Galaxy S series flagship phone in early 2024. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in most markets, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are expected to run on the company’s in-house Exynos 2400 SoC in select markets. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to be available in 12GB RAM + 256GB and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage configurations. It may include a 20-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP2SX main lens and is expected to come with a titanium frame.
