Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Beats Motorola Razr 40 Ultra in Folding Test, Survives Over 4,00,000 Folds

Samsung launched the high-end Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphone alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 at its Galaxy Unpacked event in July. This year’s clamshell foldable phone has some software improvements and a new hinge that allows for zero gap when folded. Design aside, the durability of the latest Flex hinge is a top concern for Samsung fans. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 appears to be more durable than advertised. A YouTuber tested the flip phone, which was successfully folded more than 4,00,000 times before finding any damage to the hinge and display. Samsung’s flip phone was compared to Motorola’s Razr 40 Ultra, but the latter only lasted 126,266 folding cycles.

Polish YouTuber Mrkeybrd and his team live-streamed the Galaxy Z Flip 5 durability test on YouTube channel August 2nd to August 9th. “The Great Fold Test Vol. 2” compares the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra to gauge which phone fails first. People need to fold and unfold each phone multiple times until they break one. During testing, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 endured 4,01,146 folds before failing to stay open or closed. However, despite the broken hinge, the display is still functional and performance appears to be unaffected.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has easily surpassed 2,67,000 manual folds. The hinge started to fail after about 2,23,000 folds. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, on the other hand, started having problems as early as 43,000 folds, with its hinge only surviving 1,26,367 folds.

Samsung claims the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 can withstand 2,00,000 folds. However, current testing has exceeded the company’s own estimates.

Youtuber also tested the waterproof level of Galaxy Z Flip 5. He submerged the phone in water and covered it with dust and mud. The foldable has an IPX8 water-resistance rating, which offers protection against water immersion, but not dust resistance. Live streaming is no longer available on YouTube.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is priced at Rs. The 256GB storage model is priced at 99,999 in India. It will be available domestically on August 11.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 features an Armor aluminum frame and features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (1,080×2,640 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex internal display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It also has a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED fold-out cover display. The foldable phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform custom-made for the Galaxy, along with 8GB of onboard memory. Other key specs of the phone include a dual rear camera unit consisting of two 12-megapixel sensors, a 10-megapixel selfie camera and a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.
